He leads acid jazz group internationally renowned group Down to the Bone, Mitch Forman group, the Brian Hughes band, Scott Henderson Nomad trio and CPT trio with Kirk Covington from Tribal Tech. New projects include Trio B.A.D. and Genr8r-an 8 piece acid jazz jam band based in Los Angeles.

He also teaches & gives Masterclasses in bass guitar- focusing on bass line construction, harmony and technique..

Rufus Philpot- In the course of the last ten years Rufus has established himself as one of the leading exponents of the Bass guitar in the Jazz and Fusion and World Music scenes in America and Europe.

Rufus has also worked closely with Ibanez basses on a signature bass –as can be seen in their catalogs-and Full Page Magazine ads…He was a Full Pro level endorser from 2004 until 2010.
Most recently he has started working with Xotic Basses, and is touring with and XJ 5 string model..!

Rufus is Musical Director for Down to the Bone, a high energy Acid jazz group from the UK.. They have played many major festivals including the Capital Jazz Festival in Washington, DC, Birchmere Jazz Festival, Va. And the Capital Jazz Cruise-this year going to Jamaica alongside jazz legend Roy Ayers.

DTTB Management is provided by Ron Moss-a world class manager who managed jazz legend Chick Corea for 20years and also currently manages Kyle Eastwood, bassist and son of Clint Eastwood.

Rufus also has toured Australia extensively, Italy, Poland ,Greece ,Armenia and Sweden with Planet X and the Virgil Donati group. In Armenia he performed for the Armenian President alongside Peter Gabriel as part of a huge festival in Yerevan.

In Australia, in 2005 ,Rufus performed with Virgil Donati group-headlining and closing the International drummers Festival.

He gives regular Masterclasses at world famous contemporary Music Academies-
The Musicians Institute, Hollywood and Los Angeles Music Academy, Pasadena.
He has also given Bass Masterclasses in Australia, London , England and Stockholm Sweden.

He was also the youngest ever Faculty member at the Bass Collective in New York City, 2001-2004

He has been a featured performer for world famous Music manufacturer Roland electronics at the NAMM show, and also been featured there with Ibanez basses, & Behringer electronics.

He also recently released Starship Cadillac-a cd from the trio he leads with Tribal Tech drummer Kirk Covington and Scott Tibbs. This received glowing review in bass Player magazine.

In 2007 Rufus was featured in a two page Masterclass article in Bass Player magazine (a worldwide publication for bass players)

He was also featured in numerous magazines -Full Page adverts- for Ibanez basses.

In 2009 Rufus was a featured artist-4 page interview- in Drumhead Magazine..
Rufus was also honored to be chosen to perform at Bass Player Live in 2009-alongside Tonight show bassist Rickey Minor and Beck bassist Justin Meldal Johnsen.

In 2010 he performed again at Bass Player Live for Ibanez basses, and was honored to perform alongside legendary R & B group Tower of Power at Hollywood’s Key Club as part of the event.

Also in 2010 the CPT trio (Kirk Covington, Rufus Philpot, Scott Tibbs ) headlined the International Drum Festival in Montreal, Canada.
Rufus is also part of the Brian Hughes group-having recorded their latest cd earlier in 2011.

This band has recently performed in Santiago, Chile headlining the Providencia International Jazz festival, and In Germany inc. dates in Koln, and Basel, Switzerland….

He also toured and recorded for 5 years as a part of a world jazz group-Tizer, having performed at over 20 Major Jazz Festivals in the US including shows in Milwaukee, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia,Detroit, Omaha, Denver, and Dallas, Texas..

Rufus also works on the West Coast with Grammy winner Chieli Minucci-Guitarist and Co Founder of legendary jazz group “Special EFX”…

He was also rated in the top 30 Greatest Jazz Fusion Bassists of all Time:

Additionally, in the U.K. , Rufus has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, the Colston Hall, Bristol, The Royal Festival Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall and Croydon Clocktower and been featured on BBC television and Radio, playing with Julian Stringle, Sax Appeal, the Runners, and Geoff Castle..

He also performed at the Royal Opera House with the Fairer Sax for HRH Princess Diana in the 1990s and for HRH Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
